“Plight of Art District” ...

Today’s art districts are missing the tools they need to become a stabilize retail center and art destination. Either by design or lack of foresight AD leaders employ policies which are counterproductive to a strong AD.  Robert Currie, Art Executive/Communication Director.

Little Shanty Folk Art Gallery
Gallery_NorthView.JPGThe Little Shanty grows while other businesses struggle.  The shanty started out as a little house scheduled to be demolished until local businesswomen and folk artist Alania Currie turn it into an epic center for self-taught artists in Shreveport LA. The gallery is the area largest and well known location for the purchasing of cultural Louisiana folk paintings, sculptures and crafts.  The Shanty attracts collectors, art lovers, and tourist from around the country with its variety of poignant works of art and hypnotic country Cajun ambience. We create an atmosphere and present an art experience no other gallery can offer. In addition to the incredible buying experience Little Shanty host The Gumbo Gala, its annual signature event which brings the spirit of Cajun country to the door step of this northern Louisiana city.    A key ingredient to the “Shanty” growth is a collection of professional artists.  In the mix are numerous emerging artists with incredible talent and imagery which brings unduplicated art pieces to the market.  The operating team consists of business and marketing pros which help the gallery to maintain and react to market changes.

We encourage entrepreneurs to open other for-profit art enterprises throughout the city said” Mr. Currie, Communication Director.     A twenty-first century community symbol of revitalization, artistic creativity and entrepreneurial vision. By not incorporating a museum style business model the Shanty was prevail over the pitfalls of many galleries which have come and gone. A retail focus outward marketing model which has endured start-up woes, negative stigma due to its location, and the recession is how the Shanty has grown while other galleries have failed. The success of our gallery depends on comprehensive resources and outsources “Mr. Currie.  Many past galleries incorporated a local market focus to stay afloat resulting in high inventory, low sales and unfortunately failure.  We call this “Museum Marketing Method” and only work if the enterprise is subsidized by taxpayers’ dollars. There have been five or more galleries and art studios that have closed their doors or cease operating.    The gallery has added more revenue focus events and secured additional land to expand and grow its business.  Having more land resources increase what can be offered at one location while providing our visitors a unique art experience. Party organizers, wedding planners and social organizations are discovering the value and uniqueness of Shanty for their clients and organization.  Little Shanty Folk Art Gallery, 7102 Line Ave, Shreveport, Louisiana 71106 (318) 861-3308, www.littleshanty.com
